Dr. Heather Brummett is a Board Certified Licensed Physical Therapist who specializes in working with dancers of all levels. She has been working in the Valley with dancers since 2001 so that they can reduce injury and enhance their overall performance as a dancer.
Heather has a unique style in her training sessions with the ability to educate the dancer in ways that they feel movement and alignment in an effective way. She teaches simple ways to help the dancer keep his/her body strong and in control.
Heather educates dancers in "dancer" anatomy, injury prevention and enhances technique and body alignment thru her experience as a physical therapist and extensive education.
She is a native in the Valley with a background in training as a highly competitive dancer in her youth and adolescent years, followed by a professional dance career in Los Angeles. Heather understands the demands of the dancer. While dancing in LA in 1992, at the end of a full day training/taking classes, she injured her ankle which sparked her interest in dance medicine.
Since 2001, she has been sharing the knowledge she has learned along the way to help other dancers, dance instructors, dance parents and dance studio owners learn about the "dancer" anatomy, injury prevention and simple ways to enhance technique and improve performance.

Pilates is an amazing benefit for the dancer that offers cues and imagery that helps the dancer “connect to their center” and “ground for control” in their training. She highly believes in helping dancers become Strong, Smart and Successful!

DANCER GROUP PILATES SESSIONS: The Pilates for Dancers program is offered twice a year. We meet for 4-5 months in the Fall and Winter/Spring, meeting one time per week. This Pilates class series specifically works on strength, conditioning, body alignment/awareness, posture, balance and other effective movement patterns to compliment the dancer’s dance training.
Please inquire as to when the next Pilates for Dancer’s Series will begin. We offer 3 make-ups for all sessions, as we understand dancers may have rehearsals, competitions or other obligations during the year. We offer sessions in summer and winter, depending on the current dancer’s schedules.

The Dancer’s Screen is an essential assessment for the dancer 1-2 times per year. It is a 60-min session where our specialists examine body alignment, strength, flexibility, balance and overall control of movement for the dancer.
This is an essential evaluation for all dancers, however even more essential for those dancers that you notice have difficulties with the following: poor posture, scoliosis, decreased turn-out, arches collapsing, popping or snapping hips (non-painful), or other issues that the dancer appears to be struggling with on a consistent basis. This is not a screen for pain, that would be our physical therapy assessment.
The objective of the dancer’s screen is to identify areas of the body that need improvement to overall help to reduce injury in the future, enhance technique, and teach 3-5 home exercises that will help improve overall issues at the moment.
During this session, you will be examined by a dance medicine expert that is a physical therapist. It may be identified that you may need actual physical therapy to allow a more hands-on treatment program with follow-up sessions to meet your goals. This will be determined and advised in the screen if indicated.
